Is it possible for a girl to find a guy to attractive to date him.?

i really like this girl in my math cl and the other day she gave me her num with out me asking. so she said she really likes me and i asked her on a date. she said she would if she didn't have to go out of town. then the next day she said that she didn't want to date a guy that was prettier then her do girls really say stuff like that. and then she asked if we could be in between friends and dating but shes a virgin some one help me with figuring this out. is it possible she doesn't want to date a guy prettier then her.
