Have I accidentally made H2S04? Help!?

I was making CuSo4 with a solution of MgSo4 and two copper electrodes clipped into place. I came downstais just now, and unlike last time i did this there is no blue solution with white precipitate. No. The clip holding the copper had fallen into the solution and started getting involved. There is a weird multilayered thing happening. A kind of dense pale blue layer has formed at the top, beneath that there is a thick layer of clear solution. The layer ends when it reaches the fallen clip, and a weird greenish layer forms, at the bottom of this is a dark browny precipitate. What has happened? I am not sure what metal the clip is made of.
