Do Disney characters that work at Disney World enjoy their job?

We've been to a few events at local retail stores or festivals where they have mascots or characters of movies or games and they aren't very interactive with the kids. When I see and went to Disney World the characters are much more interactive with the children and seem happier. Is it just me or is it true? Also... why don't they talk?
